We read a poem titled, "The Punctuators" to help build our reading fluency.  We also read part of it with a partner to practice our choral reading.  Here is what we looked like.  Please enjoy!

Author's Purpose

We have been talking about author's purpose, or the reason an author writes, in literacy.  I have been reading different picture books to the students to see if they can decide whether the author's purpose is to entertain, inform, or persuade.  I read a book called The Man Who Walked Between The Towers written by Mordicai Gerstein.  We decided that the book was written to entertain, but also to inform because it is a true story of Philippe Petit walking on a wire between the World Trade Centers.  I found a "You Tube" video that included pictures of the actual event taking place.  The students have not seen the video so I decided to place it on for their enjoyment.  Enjoy!

Science Test on Monday

Tonight I sent home a note talking about our science test that will take place on Monday and Tuesday next week.  I am asking that you read over the science book and study the vocabulary words with your child at least 2 times in the next four days.  Maybe make the vocabulary words into a matching game or play hangman with them.  Try and have some fun with it!  Please write your signature for each day that your child studies and have your child bring his/her science book and pink sheet back on Monday.  I also added some science websites to the blog to help with reviewing some food chains and plants and animals.  Have fun!
