I am just sending a reminder to your child that tomorrow will be the last day for BOOK ORDERS and the last day to hand in OCTOBER READING CALENDARS. Please turn in book orders and October reading calendars tomorrow. Thanks a bunch!

               Sequencing

Recognizing the way writing is

organized can help readers 

understand what is happening.

Fiction is usually arranged in

sequential, order.  This means 

that the events in the story are

         Cause and Effect

An effect is what happens.  A 

cause is why something happens.

As you read, you should try to 

figure out what happens and why

it happens.  You can also look for 

clue words, such as because, so,

since, therefore, and as a result of.

Sometimes causes are not stated 

directly.  You will need to use the

information in the text and your

prior knowledge to figure them out.

Questioning

Paraphrase

Readers paraphrase by telling the main idea of their reading by using their own words. This helps check their understanding of what they have read. Readers read the text, remove the text, and retell what they have read. Readers are reminded to retell what they have read in their own words and without adding details that were not read.
